Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will go to Turkey with a military delegation on June 8 to discuss the creation of a possible sea corridor for Ukrainian agricultural exports, the foreign minister said on Tuesday. Turkish, Mevlut Cavusoglu.

In a phone call with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is ready to facilitate the unimpeded export of grain from Ukrainian ports in coordination with Turkey.

Speaking to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency, Cavusoglu said work is continuing with the United Nations to reach an agreement on creating the corridor from the Black Sea, but problems remain between Moscow and kyiv. He said the UN has proposed forming a joint observation mechanism to monitor the sea route, and Turkey is open to the idea.

Cavusoglu said Russia wants some Western sanctions targeting its insurance sector lifted as they would affect ships that will participate in the potential shipping network, while Ukraine does not want Russian warships to come near its docks in Odessa.
